The Bachelor: Episode 1 Recap a la Ashley & Jenn

Before tonight's first episode of the new season of The Bachelor (in all its corny glory dubbed "On the Wings of Love") even aired, scandal filled the air as it was announced that one of the women hopefully vying for Jake, the handsome pilot, was in fact caught having a side affair with one of the producers/crew guys on the show. that's how you know this season is gonna be good.

So, onto tonight's episode:
Ashley and I got a good kick out of the girls' introductions. There was Ali, the girl whose last live-in boyfriend cheated on her with their other roommate. Nice. Then there was the self-proclaimed adrenaline junkie biker chick, Alexa, and the divorced 25-year-old dancer, Tenley. Ashley's pick so far is Tenley and mine quickly followed in Elizabeth, the Air Force Captain. She seemed nice and genuine and pretty, too, but alas, she didn't make the first rose ceremony cut so we'll spend no more time talking about what could have been.

Other highlights of meeting the girls included Ashleigh tripping on her dress when she was making her first impression, serendipitously falling perfectly into Jake's waiting arms. hmmm. They also spent a lot of time showing Ella (love the name, the woman not so much) who has a nice southern drawl and a son she's already sure wants to be a pilot just like the man she's sure she's gonna marry. Not really a fan but we saw her in the "coming up" reel so it looks like she's sticking around for a while.

Ashley and I didn't like the vibe on the model, Rozlyn, but she's really attractive so we understand why she'll stick around for a good chunk of the season. We can already tell that Vienna is going to make for some interesting television, despite the fact that she's not that awesome. We gave style points to Corrie who opened with what sounded like "what do you think about kissin' me?" and when Jake got a puzzled look she clarified with "Hi, I'm Corrie from Kissimmee, Florida." Clever girl. We also gave points to the girl who changed into a cute little flight attendant outfit and to the girl who threw around a football in the driveway in her floor length gown. (which was then followed by a blondes v. brunettes football game that we probably could've done without - unless there was more awkward tripping on dresses - that was funny).

Later in the show Jillian (previous season's Bachelorette who broke Jake's heart) and her fiance Ed came to help Jake "because they know him so well" - weird, right? Thought it was especially entertaining that Jillian showed up in a dress that out sparkled the rest of the prom-clad women. We were relieved when Jillian and Ed gave their professional expertise in finding love on the Bachelor by telling Jake to steer clear of Michelle, the psycho from our very own Orange County. She had a little bit of a meltdown and cried and got really emotional and we're pretty sure Jake let her stay for fear of what would happen if he let her go on the first night. or better ratings. Either way, she's sticking around.

First Kiss: Tenley (Ashley's pick!). It was cute, looked like they had some nice one-on-one time but then Tenley got a little emotional and regretful thinking she shouldn't have put herself out there like that. It did seem a little out of character for her. But, that all changed when...

First Impression Rose: Tenley! That dried those tears right quick and Jake even gave her another quick peck on the lips after she accepted. Ashley is good at this game.

Best Quotes of the Night:
(In Cambodian): "You can land your plane on my landing strip anytime." - Channy (who we would have affectionately named Channy the Tranny had she continued on to the next episode, but alas, no rose for Channy.

"I realize it's a competition but there are some girls that really brought their ta tas out to play." [scan to multiple images of women's breasts falling out of said prom-style evening gowns]

"Some people are CRAAAZY." (amen, sister)

Here are our picks for next week:
-Tenley
-Ali

More next week!
Yours Truly,
Ashley & Jennifer
