"Welcome to season 4..." Jack Donaghy says at the opening, quickly explaining that Season 4 is the name of a new hip restaurant. I did laugh. But then I felt lame.
The conflict of the episode is Liz's search for a new cast memeber for TGS. It is previously explained that Tracy is out of touch with his roots. In discussion to this idea, Jack explains, "Those 2 don't test well," referring to both Tracy and Jenna. Liz: "Ah, he's burning money again." Shot of Tracy burning money on the street. I laughed.
I found the whole Liz and Pete sneaking around to comedy shows really funny. Just because they had said that they were both really great liars, and then they proceed to be completely awkward and obvious the rest of the episode. When Pete's wife comes in mid-"confession" to their love making, her acceptance to Liz was smile-worthy, but not hilarious. Hm.
And I must not forget mentioning Kenneth. He stages a page strike and gets nothing out of it. Silly. But I did love when he said that he learned that a bonus is something extra from watching game shows. Oh, Kenneth.
I think this week's episode was similar to the pilot of the show 4 years ago, kind of crazy, but kind of underwhelming. Here's to next week, Tina!
